Let me introduce myself...
Hi! My name is Miss Karen Slitzker, and I am a 5th grade teacher at Heronville Elementary in Oklahoma City, OK. I am in my second year at Heronville Elementary, but have been in the OKCPS district since January 2008. I find every day a challenge and a joy. Teaching is truly my passion, and I hope to instill my passion for learning into my students.
I grew up in Cleveland, Oklahoma-a rural town of about 3,000 in northeastern Oklahoma. I graduated from Cleveland High School in 2003, and I then went on to The University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK and obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in December 2007. While in college, I also participated in the school's marching band, symphony orchestra, and wind symphony. I even had the opportunity to perform in the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City when I was a member of the wind symphony. After graduating from UCO, I started teaching in the OKCPS district, and have been here ever since!
I decided after one year into my teaching career that I was ready to continue my education, and went back to UCO for Graduate school. I am currently finishing my Master's degree in Bilingual Education/Teaching English as a Second Language, and will graduate in December 2013! :)
I absolutely LOVE the state of Alaska and the Iditarod! I got to visit Alaska for the first time in June 2010 when I attended the Iditarod Summer Camp for Teachers (http://iditarod.com/teachers/category/teacher-training-conferences/). Teachers, you should definitely check it out! The Iditarod is a wonderful teaching tool in the classroom, and the Iditarod Education Portal (http://iditarod.com/teachers/) is amazing, if you ever decide to start using this race as a teaching tool. Students, you too, should check out the Iditarod (http://iditarod.com/teachers/students/)! I think you will love it as much as I do!
Deje que me presente ...
Hola!
